Male Breast Reduction / Gynecomastia Surgery
Male chest enlargement is a problem faced by lots of men and it is uncomfortable to them beyond a point. It becomes a stigma in young school boys who face a bit of ridicule in school and they do not get rid of this trauma as they get older. We get a lot of men who consult us for this problem. A lot of them are too shy to even show the affected part to me even though I happen to be a male doctor.
Male breast enlargement, or Gynaecomastia, is caused as a result of increase in the glandular tissue of the breast, and can have an effect on around 40% of males.
There are two types of chest enlargement in men:
- True glandular enlargement, caused by hormonal imbalances, wherein the breasts look feminine.
- Enlargement due to fat accumulation.
Non-surgical treatments for male chest enlargement are not as effective as surgical treatments.
The latest treatment option followed at Cosmetic Studio is to burn the fat with Vaser Liposelection, and to remove the glands through a small incision around the areola. The scar gets camouflaged well, and we can avoid the big incisions traditionally seen in the excision of fat and glands, where large scars would be left on the chest.
For years, we’ve been treating fatty enlargement with traditional liposuction. Despite the size being brought down, we would have clients who were bothered by glands being left behind, which caused them discomfort. Hence, this procedure is now done under general anaesthesia only and it involves removal of both fat and glands, resulting in a flat chest.
However, this treatment option is open only to men who have fat or glandular enlargement without their skin being too lax. If the skin is too lax, as seen in glandular enlargement of breast, then the excision will still have to be considered.
